Are the Downhome Doctors romances based on true stories?

Although the characters and their conflicts are fictional, they were inspired by author Jacqueline Diamond's early life. Her father, Maurice Hyman M.D., was a doctor in the small town of Menard, Texas, for a number of years. Since there was no hospital at the time, he even delivered Jackie and her brother Paul at home!

Why was one title in the Downhome Doctors series changed?

Originally written for Harlequin, the series' titles were a compromise between the author's preferences and the editors' choices. When Jacqueline Diamond regained the publishing rights and prepared to reissue the books, she decided that the title of the fifth book, The Doctor + Four was too vague and lacked emotion. She replaced it with In the Doctor's Arms.
